We have received several calls from clients concerning the potential adverse events associated with certain flea and tick preventatives. The FDA has released a Fact Sheet for products containing Isoxazoline. Those products include Bravecto, Credelio, Nexgard and Simparica.
Our clinic was involved in clinical trials before this product went to market. In all of our cases, none had any adverse reactions to the drug. In trials where animals did have adverse events, those animals had been given five times the normal dose. The FDA requires all adverse events be listed in product information sheets which are included in all product packaging.
While these products are considered safe and effective, there is always a very slight chance that an animal can have a reaction to the drug. If this happens, please call our office immediately.
Almost all of our veterinarians and staff members have their personal pets on one of these listed products. They are the safest and most effective products on the market in preventing an infestation of fleas and ticks on your pet and in your home. The benefit far outweighs the risk.
