Nice Weather is here and so are the “Battle Creek Bugs!”
No-see-ums or “Battle Creek Bugs” as we like to call them are tiny bugs that live in the grass and sandy areas around our homes. You many notice bites similar to those pictured above on the under-bellies of our four-legged friends after they have been playing or lying outside. It is recommended to monitor these bumps, which typically disappear within 7-10 days, for any changes in appearance. If you notice any of the following symptoms, contact your local veterinarian as it could be caused by another disease process.
• Vomiting
• Lethargy
• Bloody stools/diarrhea
• Change in appetite or water consumption
• Darkening of spots or spots becoming purplish in color
Some flea preventatives are known to have repellent properties, your veterinarian should be contacted prior to purchase to match the product to your pet’s specific needs.
